Ding 11 - Visie op web 2.0

Ik lees in de blogpost van Irene dat 4% van het publiek het NA kent. Dat moet hoger en volgens mij kan web 2.0 (social media) daar een rol bij spelen voor het NA. De Sydney Observatory lukt het sinds langere tijd bijvoorbeeld aardig om de dialoog (engagement) aan te gaan met hun publiek via een beheerd kanaal waar gediscussieerd kan worden met curatoren en uniek materiaal wordt aangeboden. Hoe essentieel anders is een observatie station/museum in het bereiken van online publiek dan een archiefinstelling?

"Using social media such as blogs has for a longer time been part of Sydney Observatory strategy for building new relations with their audience. The blog is related to events and news about astronomy as well as ongoing work at the observatory. This covers content that is not necessarily mediated in the museums exhibitions. Visitors at the museum website are invited into discussions and dialogue with the curators at the observatory. The museum has registered an increase in online visitors as well as general interest among the audience based on this service (Chan 2007). In addition the dialogue on the blog has strengthened the authority of the museum, and the study suggests that; “(…) social media can be used to enable cultural and scholarly dialogue while strengthening the veracity of museum knowledge. The subsequent communication demonstrates how the many-to-many model can enhance both audience interaction and experience and museum authority” (Russo et al. 2006)."
